Casey streams new single, "Selah"

Welsh post-hardcore legends Casey unveil new single “Selah” from their third album How to Disappear, released on January 12th via Hassle Records.

Vocalist Tom Weaver comments: "This song was actually named by Liam [Torrance, guitar]; it was a word I wasn't familiar with, but I think it fits the song perfectly. 'Selah' is 'an expression that occurs frequently in the Psalms and is thought to be a liturgical or musical instruction, probably an instruction to raise one's voice or perhaps an indication of a pause."

"I have had a turbulent relationship with religion for most of my life. I have always considered myself an agnostic, but in moments of desperation I have definitely sought reassurance from a being outside of myself.

"My overwhelming feeling about religion is that at best it provides a sense of belonging and community, but at worst it serves to absolve responsibility. In moments of crisis, I have often asked myself the question: "If you are there, why are you doing this to me?".

"Selah' articulates this question with examples from my life. Near-death experiences or moments of pain that feel like they shouldn't be happening, under the benevolent gaze of something greater."

"Selah" follows Casey's previous singles "Bite Through My Tongue" and the album's title track.

Casey will be taking the album on a number of tour dates in the UK, Europe, Australia and North America this year, including performing the new songs live at Impericon Festival in the spring.

At their core, Casey was based on the idea that music is a labor of love. With no expectation of success, no desire to become famous, just a shared longing to make music - and when that was no longer true, Casey stayed true to himself and stepped away.

When Casey announced they were breaking up the band at the end of 2018, it felt like an untimely demise. Their first two LPs – 2016's "Love Is Not Enough" and 2018's "Where I Go When I Am Sleeping" – had firmly established the Welsh five-piece as one of the UK alternative scene's most exciting bands.

Now, years later, the band is back - bigger and better than ever. Casey don't just reproduce the feelings that inspire them - they embody them.
