Season 05 Episode 03 of our ongoing festival pilgrimage series. The aim of these posts is to help confused festival goers navigate massive lineups and clashing running orders by suggesting 10 essential bands nobody should miss. This time, we focus on Jera On Air, the esteemed Dutch staple.

This year Jera boasts a phenomenal lineup, one of their best ever maybe, and our team is beyond stoked to attend one more year and lose our voices to some of our favorite bands.

01. The Amity Affliction

Amity has returned. The band is angry and uses heavier music as a vehicle to deal with grief and the events of the past couple of years, crafting a brilliant album which is not just one of the best of the year, but of their entire career. Combine the sentimental intensity of the music and Amity's intensity on stage, and you get an almost cathartic show.
When: Thursday, 21:00-21:45
Where: Eagle stage

02. Casey

We would never sleep on Casey. The UK melodic outfit has reunited and from the looks of it, they're back for good. After a few sold out shows in mainland Europe, it was obvious that the world was missing Casey. From previous experience we know that watching frontman Tom Weaver pour his heart and soul early in the afternoon may be a little overwhelming, but the nostalgia will compensate for everything.
When: Saturday, 14:00-14:30
Where: Vulture stage

03. End

End is one of the best bands of our time, consisting of some of the most recognizable names in the scene. This supergroup's music is characterized by ruthless riffs and killer breakdowns, balancing between metal and hardcore all while Brendan Murphy screams his heart out. Fucking. Brutal.
When: Friday, 13:30-14:00
Where: Eagle stage

04. The Interrupters

Cool punk rhythms, fancy ska, great stage presence. That's how you describe The Interrupters. Their slot in the running order is ideal; not too early in the day, not too late either, but just when you can grab a drink and wind down, maybe even dance a little.
When: Friday, 17:45-18:30
Where: Eagle stage

05. Defeater

Another band our team holds dear. The Bostonians don't play that often anymore so we're definitely happy to see them back on select European stages. Defeater's melodic hardcore tells a strong story about the shattered American dream from different perspectives and hits straight in the feels. A truly overwhelming experience.
When: Saturday, 20:00-20:45
Where: Buzzard stage

06. Anti-Flag

The anti-establishments punk rockers from Pennsylvania have been conveying messages of unity for decades and are unlikely to stop any time soon. Anti-Flag are masters in creating catchy singalongs and big choruses, and every time they take the stage both singer Justin Sane and bassist Chris #2 showcase their best dancing moves. The band navigates the tumultuous American politics armed with solidarity and compassion, proving that only people will help the people.
When: Thursday, 20:15-21:00
Where: Buzzard stage

07. NOFX

It would be impossible to omit NOFX from this list. The legendary band is playing their farewell shows so it would be criminal negligence to miss them. Plain and simple.
When: Friday, 22:45-00:00
Where: Hawk stage

08. The Ghost Inside

The Ghost Inside made a triumphant return following their 2015 accident and we are glad to have them back. The hardcore powerhouse has been playing sold out shows and big festivals around the world, and Jera On Air marks their first show back in The Netherlands. And with a setlist consisting of fan-favorite hits, this is going to be an emotional one.
When: Saturday, 23:00-00:00
Where: Vulture stage

09. Sleep Token

After selling out Wembley Arena in 10', we all just need to see how the compositional paranoia of their recent album translates live.
When: Friday, 20:00-20:45
Where: Vulture stage

Honorable mentions
Malevolence: These guys are fucking phenomenal on stage, with a live show that never disappoints. We also secretly hope they'll play the Anastacia cover.
Lionheart: We have made a habit of catching the Californians on every single setting we can, and Jera is no different. Explosive energy and tons of nostalgia, let's do this!
Heideroosjes: A legend in the local punk scene, Heideroosjes is no stranger to guest spots on big festivals to teach the younger generation how it's done.

10. Parkway Drive

You simply can't miss Parkway Drive's show, not just for the music aspect, since their performances are always stellar, but also because of the stage production which they're constantly upgrading. They started with pyros in 2017 and the visual effects are now over the roof. The perfect way to headline the first day of Jera.
When: Thursday, 22:45-00:00
Where: Eagle stage

Jera On Air is taking place on June 22-24 in Ysselsteyn, The Netherlands.
