Live Coverage || Cannibal Corpse, Dark Funeral, Ingested, Stormruler @ O2 Forum Kentish Town, 22/04/2023

Cannibal Corpse, the renowned death metal band, established chaos in their second to last performance of their European Tour 2023. The tour featured some of the most popular bands in the black and death metal genre, namely Dark Funeral, Ingested, and Stormruler, who flocked the O2 Forum Kentish Town with lifetime fans and first-time goers that were about to experience total neck destruction.

Kicking off with Stormruler, fans were curious and thirsty for metal, including us! Their debut album, "Under The Burning Eclipse", was released in 2021 and their second album, “ Sacred Rites & Black Magick”, received positive reviews from critics worldwide, featuring a mix of black and death metal, with atmospheric elements and lightning fast thrash blast beats. Stormruler is known for their high-energy live performances, and their inclusion on the Cannibal Corpse European Tour 2023 is sure to excite fans of the extreme metal scene. Their set included hits from both albums, such as “Reign of the Winged”, “In the Shaded Vlasian Forest”, “Upon Frozen Shores” and “Internal Fulmination of the Grand Deceivers”. Couldn’t be happier with this amazing set, which showed their high-energy riffs and powerful vocals, leaving the crowd wanting more.

A quick pause, and then Ingested took the stage by storm. The Manchester Death Metal band is known for their heavy, aggressive sound and their intense live performances. The band's show was particularly well-received by fans, who were blown away by their high-energy set. We were also thrilled and sweaty after their performance! They have been around since 2006, with 7 full-length albums and 3 EPs and gave us respectful performances with songs such as “No Half Measures”, “Shadows in Time” and “Impending Dominance”. From the start, one can notice the influence and power of Ingested over the present crowd, a result of the solid reputation they build over the years within the UK metal scene.

Ingested left the crowd pumped up and during the quick break we could see a wave of Cannibal Corpse fans heading to the front, followed by Dark Funeral cultists. Once the band stepped onto the stage, we couldn’t tell the difference anymore in the sea of raised fists. Deep drums and dark melodic chords announce the arrival of our darkest fantasy, “Nosferatu”, and Heljarmadr's harsh intro scream lit the venue floor on fire. Their reputation as one of the most influential black metal bands of all time was certainly well-deserved, seeing as their live shows are a testament to their enduring popularity among metal fans.

In addition, Dark Funeral also celebrates their 30th anniversary with this tour, bringing some of the darkest compositions to the set, like “My Funeral” and “Let the Devil In” and the sharp blast beats of “Unchain my Soul” and “Where Shadows Forever Reign”, to close the act with the black metal flag up in the air.

Headliners are on the way. Cannibal Corpse, for those who have never seen them live, is hard to describe just how intense their shows can be. With frenzied energy and a stage presence that demands attention, the band delivers a powerful performance that is not for the faint of heart. The most extreme guitar riffs and speedy drumming, brutal guttural vocals and beefy neck head-banging in metal, when these elements come together in a live show, the result is an unforgettable experience of sonic savagery. Mosh pits are common at their shows, and fans often leave the venue drenched in sweat and exhilarated by the experience. Despite being the most notorious death metal band on earth with many years of experience, they still make their set list exciting: we honestly couldn't stop ourselves to headbang to those classics, “The Time to Kill is Now”, “I Cum Blood”, “Devoured by Vermin”, “Hammer Smashed Face”. With the presence of Erik Rutan as the second guitar, Cannibal Corpse doesn’t seem to have aged at all and for sure we will see them again, soon!
