Following a successful show in their hometown, and after almost a year of silence, Athens metalcore heroes, MINDTHREAT, return with a brand new single and video. The song, titled “919 Days”, continues in the spirit of the previous single, “WIC”; on one hand, MINDTHREAT further embraces a new creative approach, an experimentation which started becoming more evident in the recent stand-alone singles, and is now being cemented. Leaning heavily on a more brutal sound with slight hardcore undertones, this is the first song in a long time that doesn’t feature any clean vocals at all. On the contrary, the heavy instrumentation signals the transition to a new era and the subsequent expansion of the band’s songwriting capabilities.
On the other, MINDTHREAT is known for their wicked, and
sometimes even questionable, sense of humor, taking nothing seriously except
for their music. Keeping that in mind, the accompanying video and imagery of
the single comes as no surprise. Filmed over different days and locations, and
in typical MINDTHREAT fashion, the video is elusive; the quartet still
maintains a playful balance between a professional approach, tongue-in-cheek
satire of hardcore videos and the band –put simply- goofing around with friends,
never fully revealing the storyline’s true intentions.
In the same frisky manner, the cryptic title “919 Days” also
indicates the period between the filming of the video and its release date,
proving that good things do indeed take time especially in the critical times
we live in.
