Singer Tom Weaver comments on the single as follows:
"'Atone' returns to the familiar territory of heartbreak, but focuses on the nuances rather than the crescendo of the breakup. With age, the collective weight of small, unspoken feelings grows heavier, creating a distance that a good conversation could - but often does not - bridge.
Sonically, we wanted to bring the album closer to the raw, passionate sound that fans often associate with our first record, but also demonstrate a level of maturity and progression that is consistent with the changing feelings expressed through the lyrics over time. Rather than just being anxious and plaintive, we wanted the song to be more thoughtful and sophisticated."
Both 'Atone' and 'Great Grief' will be pressed as limited 7'' singles and will be released on April 28th via Hassle Records. Only 1000 copies will be available worldwide, with us including via Evil Greed.
Pre-orders are available here.
At its core, Casey is based on the idea that music is a labor of love. With no expectation of success, no desire for fame, only a shared desire to make music - and when that wasn't true anymore, Casey stayed true to himself and resigned.
When Casey announced they were breaking up the band in late 2018, it felt like a premature end. With their first two LPs - 2016's "Love Is Not Enough" and 2018's sophomore "Where I Go When I Am Sleeping" - the Welsh five-piece had firmly established themselves as one of the most exciting bands on the British alternative scene.
Now, four long years later, the band is back.
"Great Grief" was the first song to emerge from Casey's resurrection, a gloriously somber track in which the band continues to expand on the layered soundscapes that underpinned the songs from Where I Go When I Am Sleeping. Broken, battered and gory, and yet shimmering with beautiful defiance.
In the spirit of Casey, the band's open hearts ooze with the same kind of pain and trauma that marked them from the start. Casey don't just reproduce the feelings that inspire them - they embody them.
