Live Coverage || Silverstein, Comeback Kid, Senses Fail @ Im Wizemann, Stuttgart (DE), 26/11/2022

It wouldn't be a vacation for me if I didn't catch at least one show abroad. Such is the case with the Silverstein tour that started out a few days ago, to promote their latest record, "Misery Made Me". On this run, they are joined by fellow Canadians Comeback Kid, Senses Fail and Koyo.

This being my first time in Stuttgart, it took me forever to find the venue with public transport so by the time I gave up and took a taxi, Koyo was already on stage. I arrived at the venue just as they said their goodbyes and played their final song but I'm looking forward to getting a proper Koyo experience at Vainstream next June.

Up next was Senses Fail. First time seeing these guys and while I didn't quite know what to expect, I was certain it would be phenomenal. The "emo Rammstein", as vocalist Buddy Nielsen wishes to see them become, took the stage by fucking storm. While Buddy himself is a force of nature and a born entertainer, the band was also very impressive to watch. Their sound was very clear, allowing kids to start several circle pits during the show. The people at the front were singing aloud, as Nielsen was dancing and jumping around, closing the performance with an impressive jump from an amp, after which he ran to the front of the stage and jumped onto the barricade, which was actually what stopped his trajectory.

Up next was Comeback Kid. The Canadians released their latest album "Heavy Steps" earlier this year and have spent a good chunk of 2022 touring to promote it. While they did manage to get some people involved and to sing along, they definitely deserved a better crowd. Despite missing drummer Logan Legare, their performance was incredible; CBK gave 101% of their energy, with a setlist quite standard at this point, including all their hits and some newer material. It goes without saying that even though the new songs are quite heavier and translate really well live, the soft spot always belongs to the fan favorite oldies, to the point where a heckler made a comment that the band should "play fucking hardcore!". Vocalist Andrew Neufeld retorted puzzled that the next track would be the first song they ever wrote, introducing "All In A Year". The setlist ended with more sweat from the band and Neufeld often on the barrier, sharing the mic with those willing to sing along to "Wake the Dead".

Time had come for Silverstein to take the stage with "Infinite", "It's Over" and "Smile In Your Sleep". Sound and lights unfortunately weren't on their side, as the drums and guitars covered the vocals for the a good part of the show, and areas of the stage remained either dark or hit by strobes alone for quite some time. This however didn't stop the band from putting on an incendiary performance; the members were constantly moving and jumping up and down the stage, as vocalist Shane Told kept belting his heart out as if his life depended on it. The crowd reactions were probably the warmest of the evening, with people singing along to both old and newer songs, making Silverstein feel welcome as always. For about an hour they entertained the crowd and bid us farewell with an encore.

The show was memorable just as I was expecting. I only wish I caught the bands with a more engaged crowd. This was one of the best tours of the year and definitely a great way to start my winter vacation.
