California rock band Thrice have released an acoustic version of their song "Summer Set Fire to the Rain" through Epitaph Records. The new version of the song takes the driving dynamics of the original track, found on Thrice's latest album "Horizons/East", and boils it down to the essentials - a gentle guitar accompaniment with Dustin Kensure's vocals taking center stage. Fans can stream "Summer Set Fire to the Rain" (Acoustic) now here and watch the lyric video below:
Speaking of the new single, Kensure says, "We usually write songs built around instrumental pieces, so it's always fun to dissect them and find the song's roots hidden underneath."
"Summer Set Fire to the Rain" was originally featured on Thrice's critically acclaimed album "Horizons/East", which was released in September 2021 via Epitaph Records. The album represents one of the few rock albums where togetherness is a theme. It was mixed by Scott Evans and produced by the band themselves and recorded at their own New Grass studios.
With "Horizons/East", Dustin Kensrue and his bandmates openly and boldly confront the fragile structures that come to be known as civilization and invite us to move more consciously through our own lives. Without sacrificing the energy and heaviness of their previous albums, they have given us a deeply meditative work that serves as a musical challenge to mindfulness in everyday life.
Since forming Thrice with guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Eddie Breckenridge and drummer Riley Breckenridge in 1998, Kensrue has never shied away from a mental battle. Horizons/East conveys a sense of uncertainty, but an uncertainty that leads to opportunity rather than dead end.
That uncertainty is something that has stayed with the band throughout their career, especially in their approach to this album, where they set up their own studio and recorded entirely on their own, unsure of exactly what they could get out of themselves this time. Thrice are keen to venture into uncharted territory, not knowing where they'll end up, and their latest album is no exception.
"Horizons/East" is available now here.
The four-piece Orange County band formed in 1998 and are widely recognized as one of the most innovative rock bands of their generation. The band consists of frontman Dustin Kensrue, guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Eddie Breckenridge and drummer Riley Breckenridge.
