Celtic punk veterans The Real McKenzies have released their new single "Leave Her Johnny" from their forthcoming album, "Songs Of The Highland, Songs Of The Sea". "Leave Her Johnny is a song that's stayed with me my whole life because my grandmother taught me it when I was a little boy," reveals McKenzie. “The song is about the many dilemmas that an extended absence can bring. The song has the typical Real McKenzie touch and McKenzie sings it according to his personal interpretation. You can find it below:
New album Songs Of The Highland, Songs Of The Sea is out November 18th via Fat Wreck Chords (Edel) and features punk renditions of classic sea shanties, including several pieces by Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns. The album can be pre-ordered here.
Vocalist Paul McKenzie on the record: “You can really hear the camaraderie in these songs. There was never any argument when we recorded it, but if there was a question, we sat down like the sailors and talked about it. Because the last thing you need in a van - or on a sailboat - is arguments. Because the next step is the careenhaul…”
