Live Coverage || Bandage presents: "Build" release party @ AN Club, 18/5/2019

In early May, Bandage released their sophomore LP, titled "Build". To celebrate, the punk rock quartet announced that they would be hosting a big party on May 18th along with Pale Oaks and Prospects. From the first moment, the support and promotion of "Build" became a personal affair (an in-depth interview with the band can be found here) and Bandage were kind enough to invite Unraveled to be a part of their celebration.

Larissa's own, Prospects, went on stage with a slight delay on the announced running order but that hardly seemed to annoy anyone. Despite the early slot, the band attracted a very impressive attendance. I was unfamiliar with their music prior to seeing them but their groovy skate punk was contagious and it didn't take long for the kids in the front to headbang along to the music. What really stood out for me was the singer's resonant voice, which was bright and very well-positioned for the most part.
Up next was Pale Oaks, whom I hadn't seen since late 2017 (again with Bandage). Their indie-rock melodies, although not really my cup of tea, were mesmerizing. The chemistry between the members of the band is undeniable and their solid performance was a testament to that. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that the crowd was there to celebrate punk rock and didn't reduce before or after each set.
After a short changeover, Bandage took the stage with "Build" and "On A Sunday". I can't even begin to describe how badly I wanted to hear these songs live so please excuse my fangirling in advance. The band was understandably nervous to be presenting their latest brainchild to the public but they were able to pull the show off with confidence. And how could they not, when they received such a warm welcome? The quartet focused mainly on "Build", but chose to include a couple well-thought surprises to their set. Halfway through, the band invited the two former guitarists, Takis and George, to join them on stage and perform some older material. By the end of the set, we also saw some crowdsurfing attempts, as the band went out under loud cheers and praises. Overall, Saturday was exceptionally good, filled with good music and good friends, and definitely worth the wait.
