When a little bird told me at Vainstream last summer that Comeback Kid would be hitting the road with Every Time I Die, Knocked Loose and Higher Power in the Fall, I knew I would catch at least one show of that tour. Unfortunately, ETID was not part of the tour on the date I chose but the show was insane regardless.
I had seen The Great Divide once before in Paris, on Comeback Kid's anniversary tour. Despite the fact that the Parisians took a while to grow on the people who made it early, overall they didn't disappoint. (7)
Higher Power from Leeds is an up and coming powerhouse in modern hardcore. I mean, sure, they do sound a lot like No Warning, but their energy and passion are quite contagious. (7)
Up next was Knocked Loose. The Kentucky outfit was outrageously good. Equally flirting with hardcore and darker -core elements, they managed to captivate the kids who sang the vast majority of the lyrics. Keep your eyes peeled, Europe; the band will be back next summer for festivals. You don't want to miss them. (8)
Everybody knows Comeback Kid holds a very dear place in my heart and this show was one of my very favorites. Despite some minor technical difficulties in the first couple of songs, the Canadians performed a flawless set. Their vivid stage presence and catchy hardcore had most kids in the room passionately screaming at the top of their lungs, a lot of them also taking their chances at stagediving. I was pleasantly surprised that people knew the lyrics to the songs off of CBK's latest album, "Outsider", although, if I'm being honest, my absolutely favorite part was right after the end of "Talk Is Cheap", where a couple of guys started singing "Partners In Crime". The band caught up and proceeded to do an impromptu addition the setlist. After a few party hits, and almost an hour on stage, Comeback Kid bid us farewell with "Wake The Dead" and a plethora of simultaneous stagedives. Perfection. (10)
