So, I found myself in Paris again, after a whole year, to see a band that I've been fond of for a long time; Modern Life Is War. I had already seen Birds In Row once in the past but I was new to Terrible Feelings -and quite curious too.
The show was long announced sold out. By 7:45 the Swedes were on stage with several people in the premises. Their sound was very interesting and clear, with a frontwoman dancing, headbanging and giving her very best. The reaction they got from the crowd, however, was mediocre.
The frenchies were up next. Haven't seen them in two years, now with a new addition in the bass guitar, things seemed interesting. At first. The band was rather unfortunate to have a great energy but a horrible sound. They did try and had a noticeable stage presence; some people sang along to the older songs to no avail; the sound was litterally drums and bass with some screaming in the back.
Moving to the front, it's high time for the headliners. MLIW took the stage by storm, blasting "The Outsiders" and "Martin Atchet". The people in the front had already formed a circle pit and were stagediving. With a prologue about "money (being) the root of all evil", "Chasing My Tail" started. The band took the time to thank everyone for coming out, making the show one of the best they've played in the city. Jeffrey Eaton gave the mic to kids on multiple occasions and encouraged them to come closer. With most songs coming from the older releases, the band left pretty much everyone satisfied. On D.E.A.D.R.A.M.O.N.E.S. almost the whole venue was jumping and singing along, literally taking over the vocals. The show ended with "a slow-dance song" and also a personal favorite, "Hair Raising Accounts of Restless Ghosts". Oh the intensity, straight in the feels... It was definitely a night to remember and I'm already looking forward to the next time.
PS: As I wrote this, I realized I'm already in a serious post-show depression.
